Semaphore to Develop the Next Generation Wind Measurement Technology Using Lidar

St. Cloud, MN, August 24, 2016: Semaphore Scientific was awarded a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) contract by the U. S. Navy Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) to develop the next generation of low-cost wind measurement technology using Semaphore’s proprietary ultra-compact Lidar (Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging) design. Lidar can provide remote measurements of wind profile for air capable ships in support of aircraft launch and recovery. An emerging civilian application for Lidar based anemometry is in the wind power generation industry where real-time wind profiling can improve operational efficiency and prevent propeller damage.
